(Senior Meeting took up all of Block 1) We finished watching Awakenings today. Rather than do a writing assignment we just discussed the following questions.
1. In 4-5 sentences, explain the basic idea ("theme") that this film tries to express. What does it say about mankind, our world, etc.?
2. If you were in Leonard Lowe’s situation and you somehow could choose whether or not you could “awaken” for three months, what decision would you make? Why?
3. Describe a scene in the movie that you thought especially powerful in its emotional impact. Explain why you felt it was so moving.
4. Imagine that you are directing this movie today. How would you chose to show what Leonard Lowe had missed during the last 30 years (1973-2003) (In other words, as Leonard strolled around with Dr. Sayer, taking in his environment for the first time, what would you have exposed him to?) Try to be specific in what we would see and hear in this part of the movie.
